Nearly a month in Dominic Republic

February 5, 2017November 14, 2017 By The Wandering Vegan

I spent nearly a month in the Dominican Republic. That was less time than I’d intended, and my goals changed while there.

I went with the intention of spending 6 months there, first doing my Divemaster and then my Instructor certification with Coral Point Diving in Bayahibe. That was a huge mistake. To say they’re disorganized and have bad management is an understatement. I changed my goals while there, finished Divemaster, and then got out.

They sapped my desire to work in the diving industry, to be perfectly honest, because I had absolutely no desire to stay there any longer than necessary, let alone to try to work there after finishing.

Also, everything they’d told me via email was not like what I encountered on the ground.

I did some great dives, earned a PADI Divemaster certification, and I left trying to hang onto what was good while leaving behind the bad.

Here are some fun pictures from my month in Bayahibe, DR and living at the staff house (the guys’ side was a huge mess when I arrived. I improved it by 50% via taking out 10 beer bottles every day, but it was still a disaster when I left).

Now, onto the pictures!

General pics of sea life.

Views from the dive shop.

Views from the staff apartment.

There’s no supermarket in Bayahibe, so you have to take the bus to La Romana for that.

You never know what animals you’ll see while walking to the shop from the apartment.

St. George shipwreck, 30-40m/100-130ft of depth – my favorite dive in Bayahibe.

Atlantic Princess dive site – we went there a lot!

Dominicus & Casa Romantica (next to each other and often done together).
