Arriving in St. John’s, Antigua, we walked around a bit before deciding we wanted to go to a beach, so we headed back to where all of the taxi drivers were hounding the tourists coming off the ship. Unfortunately, most people had already filled up their vans and headed off while we wandered, so we were told to wait while they tried to fill up the van.
So we waited…
And waited…
Finally, the other couple waiting with us said they were going to bail, so the driver got desperate, said he’d take us wherever, and they rattled off some specific beach (Jackie O Beach) they wanted to go to. We had no idea where any of the specific beaches were and just agreed to tag along.
On arriving, we were informed it’s a private beach, owned by this expensive restaurant offering foie gras, and we had 0 interest in buying lunch there to get to use the beach. We walked 5min down the beach to the public area and had the same waves and same views with a lunch nearby that cost 10x less. Suckers.
We arranged for the driver to pick us up late in the afternoon, in time to get us back to the ship before it left, and just had a relaxing day in the sun, sand & surf. We saw a good bit of the city winding through traffic on the way in and out.
Great day.
